2025 Tiwi Cultural Festival & Tiwi Football Grand Final
On behalf of the Tiwi Land Council and the Tuwurrampila Cultural Heritage Committee, I am pleased to confirm that the 2025 Tiwi Cultural Festival will be held in Wurrumiyanga on the weekend of 19–20 July.
Planning for this year's Festival is well underway. We are writing to thank you for your support and involvement as we work with community, partners and stakeholders to deliver a successful and meaningful event.
Following the strong response to the 2024 pilot, the Festival will again bring people together to celebrate Tiwi culture, knowledge and creativity. In 2025, for the first time, the Festival will be held alongside the Tiwi Football Grand Final, one of the most important and well-attended annual community events on the Islands.
Festival Program
- Saturday 19 July - A full day of cultural activities, including traditional dance, music, art, storytelling, expo and workshops led by Tiwi artists and community members.
- Sunday 20 July - The Tiwi Football Grand Final, a long-standing and much-valued community gathering.
Together, the two-day program offers a meaningful opportunity to engage with the cultural, social and community life of the Tiwi Islands. The 2025 Festival builds on lessons from the first year and responds to strong interest from community members, local organisations, and visitors.
The Festival is designed to:
- Support cultural continuity by providing space for Elders to pass on knowledge and practices to younger generations.
- Encourage participation in cultural activities, both for Tiwi people and for visitors.
- Promote understanding of Tiwi land and sea management, environmental stewardship, and sustainable practices.
- Strengthen the local economy by creating opportunities for artists, art centres, and small businesses.
The Expo will run during the day on Saturday 19 July providing stakeholders with an opportunity to engage directly with Tiwi people and Tiwi organisations. If you wish to have a stall at the Expo please confirm and we will put you in direct contact with the site manager to make the relevant arrangements.
Community involvement ensures that the Festival remains community-driven, well-resourced, and able to deliver positive outcomes for Tiwi people.
The Tiwi Cultural Festival is an important opportunity to recognise, celebrate and share the cultural knowledge, artistic practice, and community values of the Tiwi people.
