Tiwi Land Council

Quarantine Washdown Facility

The quarantine washdown facility at the Tiwi Barge premises in Darwin, was officially opened by Minister the Honourable Dr. Kemp in April 2004. The facility is designed to remove soil, plant material and pest animals such as ants and cane toads from external surfaces, and is backed up by visual inspections by Tiwi Barge staff. In addition, procedures are in place for government inspectors to provide clearances for heavy equipment travelling to the Islands. Tiwi Land Rangers also carry out inspections of freight arriving on the Tiwi Islands.
